President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with the Lithuanian ambassadors and heads of the diplomatic missions to the international organizations. Over ninety extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassadors of Lithuania, heads of consular missions and Ministry of Foreign Affairs gathered for a traditional annual meeting.
Top EU appointments need to take account of the Treaty’s criteria
President Dalia Grybauskaitė is attending a special European Council meeting to decide on the possible candidates for top positions in the European Union. The President underlined that the selection criteria based only on party membership had made the nomination process very complicated.
The President met with EU member state ambassadors
President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with EU member state ambassadors accredited to Lithuania. Taking part in the traditional annual meeting were also Norwegian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Georgian, and Moldovan ambassadors.
The President took part at the Euro Summit
The President Dalia Grybauskaitė took part at the euro area summit in Brussels. President of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi, also attended the meeting where European economic and financial situation was discussed and progress in strengthening Economic and Monetary Union assessed.
EU future-related issues discussed in Brussels
President Dalia Grybauskaitė, together with other EU leaders, is taking part in the European Council meeting to discuss the EU budget, EU’s strategic agenda, external policy, climate change, and other relevant European issues. EU leaders approved the timetable for further negotiations on the new seven-year budget. It was decided to agree on the 2021-2027 budget by the end of the year.
