Dear Mr. President,
Please accept sincere congratulations on behalf of the Lithuanian people on the 75th anniversary of Iceland’s independence. I wish your country and our friends – people of Iceland – a happy celebration, continued success, happiness, and prosperity.
Lithuania and Iceland share a special relationship, which was reinforced by the support of your people for Lithuania’s freedom when brave Iceland was the first to recognize the restoration of our country’s independence 29 years ago. We highly value the political dialogue and friendship among our people that has grown significantly over this period.
Cooperation between Lithuania and Iceland, based on mutual trust and shared values, contributes to the success of bilateral relations and the security of both states in solving current defense issues at NATO level. Lithuanian people are also grateful for Iceland’s consistent and responsible approach to security and the decision to join NATO’s enhanced forward presence battalion in Lithuania.
We are particularly delighted that our political dialogue is complemented by the developing people-to-people contacts in business, science, education, tourism, culture, sports, public cooperation, and many other areas. I have no doubt that the meaningful joint initiatives of our people emerging from increasing mutual interest will make our relations even richer in the future.
May I again offer my congratulations to you and the Icelandic people on national day. Please accept, Mr. President, the assurances of my highest consideration.
