President Dalia Grybauskaitė

Toast remarks by President Dalia Grybauskaitė at state dinner in Honor of H.E. Klaus Werner Iohannis, President of Romania

Your Excellency Mr. President,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a great privilege to welcome you in Lithuania on a state visit.

In the Middle Ages, we shared common rulers. One hundred years ago, our nations consolidated their statehood.

Today, we can testify that Romania and Lithuania are close allies, committed partners and very good friends.

Our strength lies in acting together. As we face emerging threats in our neighborhood, we take concrete steps to protect our people. We highly value Romania’s contribution to air policing in our country.

Romania and Lithuania are linked together by their firm belief that success is possible only in a united, strong European Union. Three quarters of our citizens are optimistic about the future of the European Union – in this respect we are the leaders in Europe.

But it is people-to-people contacts that hold a special place in our hearts.

The volume of business between our two countries has doubled over the past five years because of increasingly expanding links.

Several dozens of jointly pursued science projects serve to develop a safer, healthier and more advanced environment. Young people are excited to visit both countries – they are the future of our successful relationship.

Dear Mr. President,

I am very pleased to welcome you in Lithuania and much delighted about our mutual understanding and commitment to work together towards the good of our people. I raise my glass to the excellent relations that exist between our two nations.

Pentru România. Noroc!

Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of the Republic of Lithuania
