With so many centuries behind us, Lithuania knows what statehood means and what the coronation of King Mindaugas represents for us.
We know and understand the history of our nation. Today we see Lithuania among the leading countries that care about its people, safeguard human rights and freedoms, and respect national self-determination.
We stand ready to defend ourselves. We are also ready to help our friends and partner countries. That is how we understand our duty and our freedom that we fought for and that we will protect now and always.
Today we are empowered with a strong sense of national dignity in Lithuania’s statehood that was created by our forefathers and that we protected and preserved. We can be proud of ourselves because we have achieved very much. We have the right to self-confidence.
In the family of EU and NATO nations, Lithuania is moving fast forward into a new centennial and a new millennium. And that is possible only because you, the people of Lithuania, and our friends, who appreciate and assist us, stand together.
As I extend my greetings on State Day, I say thank you for loving your homeland, for being proud of your country, for working hard to make it better.
May you and every generation keep the name of Lithuania in your heart forever. It means that Lithuania will live as long as we are together, and our future will be the one we create.
My greetings go to all of you. I wish you to be always proud, dignified and confident. For only together, strong and unified, we can have our freedom and our tomorrow. Thank you all!
