President Dalia Grybauskaitė

All countries are responsible for a safer world

Friday, September 28, New York - President Dalia Grybauskaitė, finishing her working visit in the United States, laid flowers at the Memorial for the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The President underlined that this place was a symbol of remembrance for all the victims of war, genocide and terrorist attacks. Such memorials and events, she said, bring nations together to fight terrorism and crimes against humanity.

"This is the place where thousands of people perished, a women from Vilnius among them. Paying tribute to the memory of plenty of innocent victims, we must assume responsibility for a safer world. At the debate of the United Nations, together with the world leaders we discussed how to avoid wars which, regrettably, are still happening today, and how to prevent such tragedies," Dalia Grybauskaitė said.

According to the President, agreement, open dialogue and negotiations is the sole truly human way to prevent violence and massacre.

Global security is the responsibility of both big and small countries, the President noted. Only consensus in all major spheres of life - energy, economy and policy - will help ensure a secure future on the national, regional and global levels.
