Monday, February 6, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to President-elect Sauli Niinistö of Finland.
"I would like to extend my sincere congratulations on your election as President of the Republic of Finland. I wish you success and strength in discharging the important and responsible duties of your position," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.
According to the President, twenty years after the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Finland we can be proud and delighted about our excellent bilateral contacts, close cooperation in the European Union, the shared understanding and the support our countries offer each other on all key issues.
"I believe that in the years of your leadership relations between Lithuania and Finland will grow even stronger and that bilateral dialogue and cooperation - within the Baltic Sea region and the European Union - will be further enriched by new ideas and initiatives of significance to both our nations and to Europe as a whole," she says.
Dalia Grybauskaitė invited the President of Finland to come to Lithuania for a bilateral visit and to attend the Nordic-Baltic Leaders' meeting that will take place in Vilnius on April 23. Lithuania took over the coordination of Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) cooperation as of 1 January 2012.
