Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to Lithuania’s Ambassador to India


Wednesday, August 22, Vilnius  President Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to Julius Pranevičius, Lithuanian Ambassador to India.

The President and the newly appointed Ambassador discussed interstate dialogue between Lithuania and India, relations in trade, tourism, culture, science and innovations.

The President urged the newly appointed Ambassador to be proactive in expanding political dialogue, promoting bilateral visits, presenting national positions and concluding negotiations on bilateral agreements. The President underscored the necessity to continue strengthening relations with Indian business associations and presenting Lithuanian high-tech products.

According to the President, with mutual interest on the rise, it is necessary to promote joint cultural and scientific activities and present tourism related opportunities in Lithuania as well as promote cooperation among universities, advertise studies in Lithuania where the number of Indian students is on the rise. In 2017–2018 academic year, almost 1000 Indian citizens studied in Lithuania.

Ambassador Pranevičius began his diplomatic career in 1998. He headed the EU Council Presidency and European Union Departments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  In 2015–2018, he was Consul General in New York. This is his first appointment as Ambassador. The diplomat is fluent in English, French and Russian. 

Lithuania’s Ambassador to India is also accredited to Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
