Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to Lithuania’s ambassador to Japan


Tuesday, October 23, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė presented letters of credence to Egidijus Meilūnas, Lithuanian ambassador to Japan.

According to the President, in developing the bilateral relations it is essential to deepen economic cooperation, increase trade volumes and promote reciprocal investments. The President underlined the importance of scientific and technical cooperation with Japan.

In 2011, Japan was 41st-largest foreign trade partner of Lithuania and ranked 59th by direct investment in our country.

Lithuania and Japan have already demonstrated successful collaboration in implementing together the development cooperation projects in Ghor province, Afghanistan.

Egidijus Meilūnas, who holds diplomas in medicine and law, in the course of his diplomatic career served in Lithuania's Government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was adviser to the President for five years, later - Lithuanian ambassador to Poland. Since 2010, the diplomat has been Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs.
