Latvian leader is coming to Lithuania at President’s invitation


Tuesday, March 20, Vilnius - On March 22, Thursday, President Andris Bērziņš of Latvia is coming to Lithuania at the invitation of President Dalia Grybauskaitė.

During a working meeting to be held in Bistrampolis Manor (Panevėžys district), the leaders of Lithuania and Latvia will discuss cooperation in strengthening energy security of the Baltic States, Baltic integration into EU energy market, implementation of energy projects - Visaginas nuclear power plant, liquefied gas terminal in Klaipėda, as well as common priorities in negotiating a new EU financial framework.

"We are closest neighbors that are united by common goals - to ensure successful development of our countries and the wellbeing of our people. To this end, we should continue promoting close bilateral cooperation, enhancing the energy security of the Baltic States, coordinating and jointly defending the interests of our countries in Europe and worldwide," the President of Lithuania said.

The issues to be discussed at the meeting also include the preparation of Lithuania and Latvia for the NATO summit scheduled to take place in Chicago in May, other issues of cooperation in the fields of security and defence, and bilateral economic relations.
