President Dalia Grybauskaitė

Life saviors set the example of humanism

Friday, September 21, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė conferred awards on 47 persons who, despite fatal danger to their families and to themselves, saved Jewish people from the Nazi genocide.

"We must not allow forget the atrocious periods in history which resulted in tragic losses for the Jewish people and for the entire Lithuania. At the same time, we must also disseminate and strengthen the spirit of tolerance in our society making it impossible for ethnic hatred to exist. Each name pronounced today is the pride of our whole nation. Just like each victim of the genocide of the Lithuanian Jews is the tragedy of our whole country," the President said.

According to the President, the most meaningful way to honor life saviors would be to prevent any disdain for humanism.
