Monday, December 10, Oslo - President Dalia Grybauskaitė together with European leaders and the EU's highest-ranking officials attended the Nobel Peace Prize Award Ceremony in Oslo. This year the prestigious distinction went to the European Union for more than a half century of peace, reconciliation, democracy and respect for human rights.
According to the President, during eight years of its membership in the EU Lithuania has gained confidence from the international community. Next year, Lithuania will be entrusted with presidency of the Council of the European Union. This is not only a great responsibility for Europe's future but also another opportunity to show the world that Lithuania is a democratic country that cherishes European values, she said.
After the award ceremony, President Dalia Grybauskaitė together with other leaders of member states, including President François Hollande of France, President Janos Ader of Hungary, President Traian Băsescu of Romania, Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis of Latvia, Prime Minister Donald Tusk of Poland, also prime ministers of Denmark, Finland, Belgium, Ireland, Austria and other countries as well as the EU's highest-ranking officials, will participate in a banquet hosted by Prime Minister of Norway Jens Stoltenberg where the situation in Europe and the decisions important for the future of Lithuania and the EU are planned to be discussed.
