Thursday, December 6, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to Finnish President Sauli Niinistö on the occasion of the 95th Independence Anniversary of Finland.
"Over recent years, Lithuania has faced serious challenges being at the helm of major regional and international organizations: several years ago it chaired the Council of the Baltic Sea States; later, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe - the largest regional security organization - and the Community of Democracies which unites over 100 countries of the world; and this year coordinated the Nordic-Baltic cooperation - a dimension of great importance and meaning to Lithuania. I am delighted that all these years Lithuania and Finland have collaborated as reliable friends and close partners, and that solid and intense relations existing between our countries for many years have become even closer and deeper," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.
According to the President, the dialogue between Lithuania and Finland has been also enhanced by new ideas of national and regional importance, cooperation projects and initiatives such as the European Union Baltic Sea Strategy or the Baltic Energy Market Interconnection Plan. Their continuity and successful implementation is in our common interest and a key objective on the agenda of Lithuania's Presidency of the European Union in 2013.
Dalia Grybauskaitė wished joy and happiness to the President and people of Finland as well as long years of peace and prosperity to their country.
