President Dalia Grybauskaitė

The President congratulated Ireland on Saint Patrick‘s Day

Saturday, 17 March, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended sincere congratulations on behalf of the Lithuanian people and on her own behalf to President Michael D. Higgins of Ireland on national holiday, Saint Patrick’s Day.

The President underscored that Lithuania highly valued growing cooperation between Lithuanian and Irish citizens and the expanding dialogue between the two countries. According to Dalia Grybauskaitė, this is also the result of successful collaborative work in addressing continental, economic and security issues within the European Union.

The President expressed strong hope that as Lithuania and Ireland continued building up their bilateral relationship, they would open new avenues for the Lithuanian and Irish people to engage together in joint activities, participate in cultural, educational and student exchanges, and effect mutually beneficial business and innovation ideas that contributed to well-being across nations and across Europe.

Lithuanian people traditionally join the people of Ireland in celebrating their national day. In Vilnius, Saint Patrick's festivities bring together its residents, Irish culture fans, members of the local Irish community, and guests – with the Vilnelė River going green as always on this day to honor the close bonds of friendship between our two nations and increasingly stronger people-to-people contacts.

On the occasion of Saint Patrick‘s Day, Dalia Grybauskaitė wished the President of Ireland, people of Ireland and the Irish diaspora around the world much joy, success and prosperity.
