Friday, June 24, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations, both personally and on behalf of the Lithuanian people, to Fra’ Matthew Festing, Prince and Grand Master of the Order of Malta on the Feast of St. John the Baptist.
According to the President, Lithuania highly values the Order of Malta’s work in providing humanitarian aid to the disadvantaged and the most vulnerable in areas affected by conflicts and disasters across the world as well as in implementing support projects in our country.
In Lithuania, the Order of Malta Relief Organization, which is under the patronage of the German Order of Malta, brings together almost 1 000 volunteers to provide social assistance in 28 Lithuanian cities. Social day care centers for children established by the Maltese operate in Lithuanian cities, and various projects, delivering assistance to single elderly people who live in poverty, are carried out across the country.
In her message of congratulations, the President emphasized that the activities of the Order, its unique guiding spirit of volunteering and mercy were a testament to the humanity of its mission.
Dalia Grybauskaitė wished the Order of Malta strength and increasingly broader support for its principles and activities across the world, as well as health, strength and togetherness in fulfilling the necessary duties of their mission to members of the Order.
