The President congratulated Ukraine on Independence Day

Friday, August 24, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended sincere congratulations on behalf of the Lithuanian people and on her own behalf to President Petro Poroshenko and to all Ukrainians on the 27th anniversary of Independence. The President sent her best wishes for every success and strength of Ukrainian people and for prosperity, peace and unity of Ukraine.

Dalia Grybauskaitė underscored that twenty-seven years ago when Ukraine declared its independence and during recent very challenging years, the Ukrainian people demonstrated to the entire world that they cherished freedom and were ready to fight for it thus taking responsibility for their future and for the development of their state. In her message of congratulations, the President wrote that with free-spirited, courageous and strong citizens, Ukraine was and would remain free.

“In Lithuania, we remember our friends’ fight for freedom and unity with pride. I sincerely wish you to preserve this and have much determination along your hard but necessary path of reforms. Lithuanian people will remain your faithful friends and supporters while you establish Ukraine as successful, independent, European and democratic state of the Continent,” the President wrote in her message of congratulations.

Dalia Grybauskaitė also underscored that, at this time, it was important for Ukraine to continue and gather society for doing the necessary work in ensuring economic recovery, prosperity and security of all residents. All Ukrainians have to feel national success. According to the President, it is a huge responsibility for the future Ukraine and accountability to all the people who fought for the freedom of Ukraine, who established and developed it.

In her message of congratulations to Ukraine on national day, the President wished the celebration marked by national unity and inspiration for joint work.
