Friday, April 27, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands on his birthday and sent her best wishes to the Dutch people celebrating their national holiday – King’s Day.
The President underlined that the Kingdom of the Netherlands was an important partner and ally of Lithuania in the European Union and NATO. However, firstly it was a friendly nation with whom Lithuania maintained constantly expanding bilateral relations at the state level and through citizen-to-citizen engagement, developing successful joint initiatives and seeking new opportunities for our people to work together across a broad range of areas.
"Our two countries stand in the same line on key defense issues, which is very important for ensuring the continent's effective security and increased military mobility. We highly value your country's participation in NATO's forward presence battalion in Lithuania and its repeated air force deployments in the Baltic air policing mission,” the President wrote in her message of congratulations.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima will make a state visit to Lithuania, celebrating the centennial of its restored statehood, this coming June. According to the President, this visit is an important symbol of friendship between the two nations and an excellent opportunity to discuss the development of bilateral trade, investment and cultural ties as well as collaborative work on continental agenda issues in order to build a secure and prosperous future for our people and for all Europeans.
The President wished King Willem-Alexander, members of the Royal Family and the people of the Netherlands much happiness, success and prosperity.
