Monday, March 18, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from Ambassador Ana Maria Ramirez of Argentina.
The President and the newly appointed Ambassador discussed trade collaboration between Lithuania and Argentina. According to the President, bilateral partnership has considerable potential to grow and develop joint scientific and business projects in IT, life sciences and innovation. Argentina is Lithuania’s biggest trade partner in Latin America. The European Union and Mercosur countries, including Argentina, are currently negotiating the free trade agreement.
President Grybauskaitė also highlighted the importance of cooperation in education area and urged for development of student exchange between the two countries. Lithuania and Argentina are currently involved in the negotiations on working holiday agreement for young people.
Active community of Lithuanians in Argentina which promotes old traditions was also discussed at the meeting. The President and the Ambassador addressed regional security, economic and other issues at the meeting.
It is the sixth Argentinian ambassador to Lithuania. The diplomat started her career in 1979, after graduating from law and diplomacy studies. She was the Deputy Permanent Representative of Argentina at the UN and worked as an ambassador in Thailand and Peru.
