The President received letters of credence from the ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina


Friday, February 26, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė accepted letters of credence from Haris Bašić, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Lithuania. The President and the Ambassador discussed issues concerning EU and NATO integration, security and economic cooperation.

Bosnia and Herzegovina submitted its application for EU membership on 15 February. The President emphasized that the application to join the European Union was a very important step but that was only the beginning of the process. It is necessary to further make substantial progress in judicial, anti-corruption and crime reforms.

Speaking about trade relations, the President stressed that it was necessary to boost economic cooperation between the two countries. According to Dalia Grybauskaitė, exports by Lithuanian meat producers demonstrate that there are good opportunities to develop business links.

Diplomatic relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina were established on 6 November 1992.


Haris Bašić, born in 1974, holds a degree in business administration. In 2007-2009, he lectured at the University of Sarajevo. In 2010-2014, the Ambassador was adviser to a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and from 2014 he was political adviser to the President. Since 2015, Haris Bašić has been Ambassador to Denmark and resides in Copenhagen.
