The President received letters of credence from the Ambassador of Burkina Faso


Tuesday, November 29, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from the Ambassador of Burkina Faso, Simplice Honoré Guibila.

During their meeting, the President said that Lithuania and Burkina Faso should develop closer economic contacts. She pointed out that information and communication technologies, solar energy, agriculture, and industrial machinery were the most promising sectors for cooperation between the two countries.

The President and the Ambassador agreed that academic, cultural and tourist exchanges could significantly contribute to building people-to-people contacts. At the present moment, several hundred students from African countries are studying in Lithuania under the Erasmus Mundus programme.

Lithuania and Burkina Faso established diplomatic relations on 23 September 1998.

The Ambassador was born in 1963, and has two children. Simplice Honoré Guibila has a Master’s Degree in Law. In 2015 he was appointed Burkina Faso’s ambassador to Germany. He also worked as Ambassador to the United Nations in New York, Deputy Ambassador to the United States of America, and Director of Legal Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
