The President received letters of credence from the Ambassador of Chile


Monday, January 29, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from Ambassador Julio Bravo Yubini of the Republic of Chile.

The President highlighted close cooperation between Lithuania and Chile on promoting women’s rights in the world. President Dalia Grybauskaitė and President Michelle Bachelet of Chile initiated a letter to the UN Secretary-General calling on the states of the world to estimate the costs of violence against women and to use all means to stop it. 

Economic relations between the two countries were also discussed at the meeting. Chile is the third largest Lithuania’s trade partner in Latin America. Lithuania also supports the modernization of the EU-Chile Association Agreement, which includes a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement. This will open more opportunities for EU and Lithuanian exporters.

According to the President, it is necessary to use the potential of Lithuania and Chile more intensively through cooperation in the areas of information and communication technologies, innovations, life sciences, lasers and engineering.

The President and the Ambassador also discussed cooperation in the areas of culture and education, a possibility to sign a working holiday agreement that provides young people with opportunities to work for the maximum duration of one year, study and travel abroad.

Julio Bravo Yubini is the eighth Ambassador of Chile to Lithuania. The Diplomat holds a degree in history and geography. He studied international relations at the Diplomatic Academy under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile and served at the embassies in Thailand, Peru, Argentina and the USA. In August 2017, he received his first appointment as Ambassador to Poland. The Ambassador is also accredited to Lithuania.
