Friday, October 25, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letter of credence from Ambassador Claire Lignieres-Counathe of France and discussed key issues on the European and security agenda as well as bilateral relations and strengthening of business ties.
According to the President, France is an important partner and ally. Lithuania supports solid role of France in the European Union and determination of Lithuania and France to continue enhancing bilateral dialogue in search for a response to shared challenges, and efforts to address the future of the EU, defense and Brexit matters.
Lithuania is grateful for France’s decision to send troops to NATO forward presence force deployed in Lithuania, its participation in air police missions and decision to contribute to implementation of EU cyber rapid response project initiated by Lithuania. Lithuanian and French military forces also jointly take part in missions in Africa.
During the meeting the President encouraged the new ambassador to actively present the French culture all over Lithuania.
It is first appointment of Claire Lignieres-Counathe to the ambassador’s position. She started her career in 1985 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, worked at representative offices in Canada, Austria and India. She was in charge of Central Europe affairs, crisis management and staff matters at the Ministry. Before the current appointment she worked as an auditor at public authorities.
