The President received letters of credence from the Ambassador of Qatar


Wednesday, 30 November, Vilnius - President Dalia Grybauskaitė received letters of credence from Ambassador Ahmed Saif Saif Khalaf Al-Midhadi of Qatar. The President and the newly appointed Ambassador discussed topical issues related to bilateral and international cooperation, visa regime and economic relations.

Referring to the increasing trade between Lithuania and Qatar, the President underscored that more committed mutual efforts were needed for strengthening economic relations.  Next year will mark the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Qatar. According to the President, this will present an opportunity to sign an agreement on the promotion and protection of investments.

Dalia Grybauskaitė said that it was also important to develop cooperation in the area of tourism and to simplify the visa regime for Lithuanian citizens.

The Ambassador resides in Warsaw and has been serving as Ambassador to Poland since 2015. Ahmed Saif Saif Khalaf Al-Midhadi was also Ambassador to the Russian Federation and Belarus, Finland and Ukraine in 2008-2014, and to the Republic of Korea in 2004-2008.  Before that, he served as Deputy Ambassador to the United Kingdom and the United Nations in New York.
