The President will attend the Three Seas Initiative Forum and meet with the President of Poland


Wednesday, August 24, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė will attend the forum dedicated to the Adriatic-Baltic-Black Sea Initiative at the invitation of Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, tomorrow, on August 25, in Dubrovnik.

Before the forum, President Dalia Grybauskaitė and President Andrzej Duda of Poland will have a bilateral meeting to discuss cooperation energy and military security, strategic bilateral projects, cooperation within the EU and NATO, geopolitical situation, security threats facing Lithuania, Poland and the entire region, and the situation in Europe after Brexit. 

The Adriatic-Baltic-Black Sea regional cooperation possibilities in the fields of energy, transport, economics and digital market as well as potential infrastructure projects that are important for security and development will be discussed at the Dubrovnik Forum, entitled ‘Strengthening Europe: Connecting North and South’. A joint political declaration is expected to be signed after the meeting of the leaders.

The Three Seas Initiative will geographically interlink 12 countries: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Rumania, and Bulgaria.

The first panel will be also attended by government officials from the Balkan countries: Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro. Ministers of foreign affairs, energy and transport from EU member states and the Balkan countries as well as representatives of Turkey, the U.S. and China will also meet in thematic panel discussions.

In her speech at the Dubrovnik Forum, President Dalia Grybauskaitė will focus on the challenges to energy security, Lithuania’s experience in overcoming them and the importance of international cooperation to stop dangerous geopolitical projects.

Lithuania, with its own LNG terminal and electricity links to Sweden and Poland, is a model country on the diversification of gas supply and ensuring its energy security. Lithuania will contribute to the construction of the LNG terminal on the island of Krk that is of strategic importance to the Adriatic Sea region and the whole of the European Union.
