Friday, June 28, Vilnius – President Dalia Grybauskaitė is leaving for Brussels on Sunday, June 30, to attend a Special European Council.
The meeting, convened as a matter of urgency, will continue talks on nominations for the EU’s top jobs.
Since major political parties have failed to agree on possible candidates, leaders will continue consultations on appointments to high-profile EU-level positions: President of the European Commission, European Union Council President, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and President of the European Central Bank.
The fifth top ranking EU job is President of the European Parliament who is elected at the first plenary session.
The inaugural plenary session of the the newly elected European Parliament is scheduled for July 2 in Strasbourg.
